December 2016 Income and Pageviews Report

December was an interesting month to blog. With all the holiday craziness I was interested to see if people would buy like crazy or be disengaged because they had so much to do. I made sure I had a post out about the toys that last for kids to give my readers present ideas. It was kind of up and down and I was busy with my own holiday events and fun with the kids so I definitely didn’t give the blog too much of my time.

Overall, things stayed in a good range all around. It was nice to see that even when I don’t put the work in that the numbers wouldn’t disappear. That is one of the things I loved about the whole blogging idea in the first place. That I could be a mom and enjoy my family and still be able to bring a passive income to our life.

A little bit of background…

I first stumbled across the idea of blogging around March 2016 about 6 months pregnant, trying to find a way to stay home longer with my kids. My little P arrived 2 months early in April and I knew I had to make this work! So I started writing a few posts in Google Docs and was surprised how easily the words came out and how much I really enjoyed the outlet of writing.

Barely sleeping and living between a hospital with a baby in the NICU and home with a 2-year-old was not leaving a ton of blogging time. Then rolled up in a super sale came Elite Blog Academy Lite with the Paradise Pack bundle for only like $200. I knew I needed some training because I had NO idea what I was doing.

So I dived in and bought it because I loved the early entry to EBA(only opens twice a year) and that I had the option to upgrade to the full EBA course as well. I started working my way through the course and had some stops to work on creating great content. I decided that 20 was a good number of posts for me before I wanted to start sharing my blog with the world.

In April  I made the leap to buy hosting and domain through BlueHost for a year. I spent May, June, July and August writing when I could find the time and learning how to set up my blog(read a not tech savvy newbie guide to setting up a functional working blog). I worked my way through EBA Lite the first module and about halfway through the second module too. Thank you, Ruth, for giving me the skills to blog with a purpose and passion! Seriously, EBA is a total game changer and I think it is a fantastic course for a new blogger! As long as you have something you are passionate to write about, that can help people!

Why I’m sharing this with you…

Money has always been a private matter to me. So sharing this feels really weird to me. I don’t even talk about money with my family very often. It was the other people who shared their income that got me to start blogging in the first place. I am hoping that me sharing my income reports will inspire someone else out there the way I was inspired to start a blog. There is definitely room in the blogging world for everyone, it’s like making a new friend!

This is also a great way for me to stay accountable to myself. To see what is working and what is not working and make changes accordingly. It will help me gauge the value of the courses I am taking to better myself and my blog as well. It will also give me direction as to where and how I should be spending my time to see the best results.

What worked this month…

So this month I decided to finally automate my pinning on Pinterest using BoardBooster. I am so happy that I did(you can try is for free here!). At first, I was worried about the numbers because they definitely went down. I decided to keep watching and see what would happen. The time I freed up from not manually pinning was well worth it because that was a tedious task to do every day, multiple times.

My own Pinterest board turned out to be my strongest board. It gave me some real insight into what Pinterest is looking for in terms of a board they will share with others in the “picked for you” feed. I am hoping I can create other boards on Pinterest using this strategy and repeat the traffic I have seen from it. If I can have success with this I will be sure to create a mini-course on it to share with my fellow bloggers!

What needs improvement…

I still have yet to do anything other than set and forget my Google ads. I also haven’t branched out on different ways to make money with other affiliate programs either. So it is definitely time to start sitting down and taking a look at what products and services I love and that my audience would love too.

Fun fact about me, I have only used Pinterest in terms of social media in my personal life. Way back when I had a Myspace but it caused a lot of drama in my life that was unnecessary and I swore off social media when I was like 20. Fast forward 10 years and I have no clue what I am doing with any social media. I am tackling setting up and growing my social media accounts for the blog. We’ll see how it goes.

The Numbers…

Pageviews were down a bit from the previous months. I’m not too worried about this because I am testing with BoardBooster about what times to schedule my pinning. The holidays also changed up some stats too. Hopefully, next month will see a more stable increase.

PAGEVIEWS – 54,121 – Thank you to my awesome readers!

INCOME BREAKDOWN

I am going to post my income in the month I earn it not when I get the actual payments. I know a lot of other people do it the other way around but for me, this makes more sense.

  • GOOGLE ADSENSE – $67.41

  • AMAZON – $96.79

TOTAL = $164.20

EXPENSES – $0

So I’m down like $30 from last month. That 12% November Amazon bonus was the difference. Happy with the numbers but ready to start the new year and put more drive into my blog. I want to start being more consistent and actually working on treating my blog like a business.
Stay tuned for updates! Please share your income reports here! Leave some comment questions or love!  I love to read them!
